Alfred "Al" Chill Obituary (1923

Alfred Alexander Chill, 98, loved as a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and respected as a successful clothing merchant, patriot, and active civic leader passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022, at Norman Veterans Center, in Norman, OK. He was born on May 28, 1923, in Marion, Kansas, the first child of Alfred Alexander and Golda Patterson Chill. Al graduated from Marion, Kansas High School in 1942. After graduation, he attended Kansas State University, but was drafted into the Army after he finished only one semester. In World War II, he served in a machine gun squad with the 114th Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division in various campaigns in France and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, two Purple Heart Medals, and a Presidential Unit Citation. After his discharge from the Army in 1945, Al returned to Marion where he met Lois L. Mathiot. Al and Lois were married on September 8, 1946, in Marion. In 1952, they moved to Guymon, OK where Al was transferred to accept a position as manager of J. M. McDonald's clothing store. Al and Lois were long-time members of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon. Al was very involved in Guymon's civic activities serving Boy Scouts, Chamber of Commerce, City Council, Industrial Foundation, Masonic Lodge, Methodist Church, Rotary Club, VFW, among many other organizations. He was also passionate about Guymon's economic development activities. Al and Lois purchased a 50% interest in D&J Store, a prominent clothing store in Guymon. Together, they operated a successful business selling men's, women's, and boy's clothing for several years until they retired. Lois and Al have three sons, Bruce of Oklahoma City; Brad (deceased); and Brian of Oklahoma City. Lois and Al lived in Guymon from 1952 until they moved to Oklahoma City in 2015. Al was preceded in death by his parents; brother Harry Chill; son Brad Chill; and great grandsons Logan and Griffin Chill. Al is survived by his wife of 75 years, Lois, two sons Bruce Chill and wife Teresa, and Brian Chill , Kim Chill, grandchildren Lacie Hill and husband Brian Hill, Jeff Chill and wife Karlee, Brantan Chill and wife Lauren, Brian Keith Chill, and Brendon Chill and wife Molly; great grandchildren Channing, Maddox, and Walker Hill, Avery, Ellie, Iyla, Evelyn and Madelyn Chill; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Alfred A. Chill to Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, 523 N. Roosevelt Street, Guymon, OK 73942. Service Details Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Henson-Novak Funeral Home in Guymon. Graveside Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022 at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon with Pastor David Player officiating. Services are under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, OK. A Memorial Service to celebrate Al's life will be held at a later date in Oklahoma City, OK.
