Becky Pracht

–

Guymon, Oklahoma

Rebecca (Becky) Carolyn Pracht, lifelong resident and passionate community volunteer of Guymon, Oklahoma, passed April 23rd, 2013. She was 76.

A Guymon native, she was born at home in the middle of one of the worst dustbowls on record to former Guymon Mayor Paul and Geraldean (Jerry) Fowler on January 17, 1937. After graduating from Guymon High School in 1955, she attended Panhandle State University.

Married for 52 years to the man she fell in love with at first sight, Dr. Robert Pracht, Becky was a true pioneer woman. They raised their family on a ranch two miles north of Guymon. She treasured spending time cooking, gardening, reading, traveling and keeping up with her grandchildren and Sarah's activities. She invested many hours with her friends at the First Presbyterian Church, Guymon Library Board, Red Cross and PEO. An avid reader, she spent 25+ years on the Guymon Library Board devoted to making sure it was a resource for all ages in the community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert L. Pracht in 2010. Her legacy is carried on by her three children: son, Thad Pracht of Temecula, CA, daughters, Heidi Rogers of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Meganne Townsend and her husband Stan of Mountain View, AR. She is survived by her six grandchildren: Whitney Pracht of Guymon, OK, Nicolas Smith of Fallbrook, CA, Kellen Smith-Blue of Norman, OK, Weston Rogers of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Catherine Townsend and Peter Katisis, of Beverly Hills, CA, Caroline Townsend of Little Rock, AR, and a great grandson, Christian Blue. She is also survived by her brother Lee Fowler and his wife Betty of Guymon, OK and their daughter and Becky's goddaughter, Sarah Fowler, sister-in-law, Jennie and her husband M.R. Allen of The Woodlands, TX, sister-in-law, Bonnie Pracht of Akron, IA and several nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support to our mother during her illness. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith and the kindness and prayers of family and many friends sustained her through the last few years of her life.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 29th, 2:00 pm, at the First Presbyterian Church, 310 NW 7th Street, Guymon, with Rev. Deborah Hollifield officiating. Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian Church (AV Project), 310 Northwest 7th Street, Guymon, OK 73942 and the Guymon Community Enrichment Foundation (Guymon Library), P.O. Box 481, Guymon, OK 73942.
