Boise City, Oklahoma
Cecil Dean Myers was born June 1, 1938, on a farm west of Boise City, Ok, to Carl Duncan and Lora Mae Williams Myers. He lost his mother when he was 3 years old. In 1947 his father bought the Thatcher Ranch northeast of Felt and moved the family to that location. Cecil attended Sandy View Grade School near Boise City, then Felt School, and later Boise City High School where he graduated in 1957.
Cecil married Patsy Sparks of Amarillo, Tx, who was, at that time, teaching school in Kenton, Ok. They eventually established their home in Felt, Ok. They celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary this past October.
In 1958 Cecil attended auction school in College Station, Texas to pursue his long time interest and goal to be an auctioneer. He was the livestock auctioneer in various auction barns in OK, KS, NM and TX -having started in Clayton, NM and then, later, spending the majority of his career working at the Guymon and Elkhart Livestock Auctions.
In addition to his livestock auctioneering, he conducted numerous farm and estate sales and obtained his Oklahoma Real Estate license. He later established Cecil Myers Auction Service and continued to hold many auctions throughout the Oklahoma Panhandle region. He conducted one of the largest land sales in Cimarron County. In addition to his auction business, he also ranched and farmed in the Felt community. Cecil spent many hours volunteering his time and support to the local Junior Livestock Shows and Sale, along with other various charitable auctions, of which he thoroughly enjoyed.
At age 59, Cecil suffered a major stroke which devastated both his careers in auctioneering and ranching. He managed to remain at home for twenty years and then moved to Morton County Senior Living in Elkhart, KS and, most recently, Coldwater Manor in Stratford, Tx. The family is very appreciative of the Administrators and staff for the wonderful care they provided during the last two years. The family is also thankful to his roommate, Jerry Rhoads, for his kindness and friendship.
He loved traveling and spending vacations in the "cool pines" of northern New Mexico and Colorado on family vacations.
Cecil was preceded in death by his father, Carl Myers and his step mother, Geneva Forsyth Myers and his three siblings, Ted Myers and wife Larue of Felt, Vivian Myers Oldham and husband David of Amarillo and Gail Myers and wife Martha of Felt and, later, Dumas, Tx.
He is survived by his wife Patsy, his son, Clay and wife, Jackie of Felt, Ok and their children, Austin (Bailey) Waters of Felt and Haylie (Trevor) Melton of Amarillo, Tx. His daughter Kelley Grimes and husband Marvin of Lubbock, Tx and their son, Capt. Dee Grimes of Hampton, VA and their daughter, Drue Grimes of Addison, Tx.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Cecil's memory to the Felt Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 234, Felt, Ok 73937 or to a charitable cause of their choice.
