Clayton Goff Obituary (1935

Clayton Brown Goff passed away peacefully on March 17, 2022 at the age of 86 at Northwest Texas Medical Center, Amarillo Texas. He was born in Elkhart, Kansas, December 23 rd , 1935, the son of Clifford Fuller Goff and Reba Estella (Brown) Goff. Clayton was one of six children: Gwen, Carolyn, Clinton, Reba Jane "Janie", and Jeffrey. He will be remembered as a devout man of patience who was loving, kind, humble, encouraging, and an excellent listener. He spent most of his life in the Oklahoma Panhandle surrounded by family and friends and active in his community. His favorite pastimes included riding horses, being outside, and working with people. He attended high school at Plainview High School in Cimarron County where he graduated in 1953. Clayton met the love of his life, Nadine (Calvert) Goff, in 1952 through church and they were dating by 1956. They married on August 15 th , 1957 at the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon. He earned his bachelor's degree from Panhandle A&M with a degree in science in the same year. By 1970, Clayton had earned a master's and administrative degrees from New Mexico Highlands University. The young family was blessed with the company of many friends and family throughout their many early moves around the Panhandle. Clayton and Nadine's first home was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where they welcomed their first daughter, Janet Gay Goff. They then moved to Claude, Texas, where Clayton taught, coached, and drove the school bus. In 1960, the family relocated to Baker, Oklahoma, where Clayton taught at the Eureka School District and celebrated the birth of a second daughter, Sandra Kay. They then moved to Turpin, where he taught math and coached multiple teams for the school. During the family's years in Turpin, Clayton and Nadine were blessed with their son, Glen Calvert Goff. After several years, the family moved to Felt, Oklahoma for a promotion where Clayton served as the school's superintendent. In 1970, the family settled in Guymon, Oklahoma where Clayton became a curriculum coordinator, assistant superintendent, and eventually superintendent for the school district. While in Guymon, Clayton was an active member of the community, belonging to the Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, and the Methodist Church, organizations close to his heart. In service to the school and his community, he was known for his work ethic, integrity, reliability, and thoughtful demeanor. Upon retirement in 1992, Clayton and Nadine relocated to a house in the country, where he enjoyed ranching with friends and working at the sale barn. Clayton is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Reba, and his siblings Jeff Goff and Carolyn Shryock. He is survived by his wife Nadine; siblings, Reba Jane Kunselman, Gwen Steen and her husband A.B., Clinton Goff and his wife Mary Ann. Survivors also include his children Janet, Sandra and her husband Bill, and Glen and his wife Shelly. His memory is treasured by his family, numerous nieces and nephews, and seven grandchildren: Heydon Hensley, Kestrel Hensley, Alyson Cooper, Mattie Hensley, Devon Goff, Avery Goff, and Connor Goff. Visitation will be Monday, March 21, from noon to 7:00 p.m. Family will be in attendance from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 22 nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with pastor David Player presiding. Burial will be in the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, Oklahoma immediately following the service.
