Delbert Purcell Smith, Jr Obituary (1929

Delbert Purcell Smith, Jr., 81, passed away early Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his home in Dumas, Texas. The son of Mary Edna Rose (Youts) and Delbert Purcell Smith, Sr., he was born August 21, 1929, in Maud, Oklahoma. Delbert graduated from Shamrock High School in Shamrock, Texas. He entered the United States Air Force in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was united in marriage to Barbara Diane Ecklaman on August 2, 1952. The Smith family had lived in Pampa, Texas before making their home in Guymon in 1963. He was a self-employed master electrician and a member of the First Christian Church, Guymon. His wife, Diane Smith, passed away in April 1974. Delbert had lived in Dumas for the past six years. He is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Melissa and Kim Peterson of Guymon, Marcia and Chuck Backus of Edmond, OK; and Marla and Bill Taylor of Naturita, CO; three sons and their wives, David Smith and Mary of Lake Livingston, TX; Tommy Smith and wife, Tami of Guymon; and Aaron Smith and wife, Lori of Stratford, TX; a sister, Shirley Ann and husband, Russell Herring of Richardson, TX. He is blessed by twelve grandchildren, Jana and Monte Wallace, Jaime and Arlen Kauffman, Scott and Nicole Peterson, Arika and Patrick Guerrero, Whitni and Raul Silva, all of Guymon; Matt and Jeana Backus of Edmond, OK: Micah & Erick Hildenbrand of Dallas, TX; Jeff and Erica Smith of Nederland, TX; Kelby Smith of Oklahoma City; James Smith of Amarillo, TX; Wyatt Smith and Cole Smith of Stratford, TX; and fourteen great grandchildren, Grayson & Gannon Wallace, Conner & Nash Kauffman; Derek & Caeden Keenan; Chase Hildenbrand; Jaxton Backus; Zach, Riley & Colby Smith; Xander Guerrero; Zahayla & Ariana Silva. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Donnie E. Smith, wife, Diane Smith, and a grandson, Joshua Backus. Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon, October 20th, 2:00 PM, at Elmhurst Cemetery with Rev. Odie Nunley officiating. Services are under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors.
