Desiree Ohnick Obituary (1969

Lisa Desiree Ohnick (Desi) passed in the night of March 28, 2020. She lost her long struggle with cancer, but gave it a good fight. Desi was always a fighter, even when life dealt her hard blows. She had many, many friends in the community, who supported her when she needed it. Many of whom have continued supporting her after she has passed, with their generous donations to help lay her respectfully to rest. She was lucky to have passed at home with her loved ones, including the love of her life, Tommy Strutton, and her beloved cats. She was kind hearted and always rescued any animals that needed her help. She graduated Guymon High School in the year of 1987, a rather remarkable year. Not only did her class win state, but was populated with a number of outstanding students, of which she was one. Desi was a hard worker, holding a variety of jobs. Her first, working as a student at Mr. Burger for several years. After her stint in the Army, where she trained as an interpreter for Korean, she worked at the Texas County Court House, and then as a dispatcher for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Many of you may remember, she also helped her Aunt Connie at the Spa Club by playing music, at which she was very good. Desi was also a talented artist, and loved to paint. Some of her photographs and paintings are very poignant. She was the adopted daughter of Frank and JoAnn Ohnick. And the great granddaughter of Chalk and Ruby (Hitch) Waters, all deceased. She is survived by her mother, Robin Fergeson, and her aunt and uncle, Connie and Dennis Kirk, and her cousins, Daenan and Kelli Kirk, all of Utah. Desi's sister, Nicole Kuykendall- Brown of Oklahoma City, was also one Desi's best friends, especially at the end, when friends are needed most. She is also survived by her brother, Anthony Kuykendall of Utah, and her nieces and nephews, Allison Barr and son Sawyer, Morgan Obriant, Brodan Brown, Jacob Kuykendall, and Katy Kuykendall. Her close extended family includes her second cousins, Jeff Bailey, Steve Bailey, Mike Bailey and spouses all of California. And she was especially close to her second cousin, Sue Lamski and family of Minnesota. Desi was much loved and will be greatly missed. Services are pending at this time.
