Don Heddins

Gruver, Texas - Don Heddins, 73, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011.

The son of Dorothy Louise (Alexander) and Melvin Eugene Heddins, Donald Eugene Heddins was born November 16, 1937 in Sullivan, Illinois. In 1957 he settled in Hereford, TX, married and was blessed with five children.

Don worked hard to provide for his growing family by taking jobs in the farming and cattle industry and in 1974, he moved his family to Gruver, TX. He was united in marriage to Alice Louise (Coffey) Hawkins on August 20, 1978 in Friona, TX. In the 1980s, Don began driving trucks full time, hauling cattle as an owner-operator for many years. Don enjoyed the trucking industry, traveling all over the country. Don and Louise built and enjoyed their mountain cabin in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. He was a member of Gruver First Baptist Church.

Don is survived by two daughters, Donna McCubbin and Rhonda Smith of Spearman, TX; five sons, James Heddins and wife, Michelle of Williston, FL; Tim Heddins and wife, Zenith of Gruver; Jerry Hawkins and wife, Donna of Logan, NM; Roy Hawkins and wife, Connie of Guymon, OK; and Monty Hawkins and wife, Shelley of Perry, OK; his sister, Mary Scrivner of Ft. Myers, FL; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and a special friend, Mickey Lackey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Louise Heddins in 2007; daughter, Kristi Heddins Kennedy in 2008; a grandson, Garet Hawkins in 1983;great grandchild, Destiny Cheyenne Heddins in 2007; son-in-law, Ray McCubbin in 2010; sister, Helen Cline; and brother, Lynn Heddins.
