Dyan Smith Obituary (1940

Dyan Howell Smith was born on December 18, 1940, to Harvey and Lucille (Harris) Howell in Liberal, Kansas. She entered into eternal rest on July 1, 2024, in Dalhart, Texas, at the age of 83. Dyan grew up on the family farm in rural Texas county, graduating from Eureka High School in Baker, Oklahoma in 1958. She was proud to be a Eureka Polar Bear. She graduated from PAMC in 1963. Claude's sister Glenna tells the story of how Claude and Dyan started dating. He was out of college and working on the family farm when he asked if there were still any cute girls on campus. Glenna listed off several girls, but he was not interested in them, he wanted to know about little Dyan Howell. Glenna didn't think there was any way that it would work out because we all know Claude was a talker and Dyan was very reserved. Obviously it worked out...for 52 years of marriage. They were married December 1, 1963, and were the parents to three sons, Claude Duane, Paul Wayne, and Roger Lane. Dyan accepted Christ at a young age while attending the Baptist church in Adams. She taught Sunday school and VBS and helped with Bible Club for many years at Felt. She loved her grandkids and enjoyed watching their basketball games through the years. Dyan was an avid gardener. She loved growing and canning her own vegetables and showing people her beautiful flowers. For many years she cooked for the harvest crew, feeding them out in the field and in her house, which was always in perfect order. She also loved to play 42. At every family gathering she could be found at the domino table, paired up with Glenna. Dyan was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Lucille, infant son Roger Lane, sister Wanda, two brothers-in-law Hubert Wells and Bill Taylor, and sister-in-law Diana Smith. She is survived by her sons Duane and Paul, grandchildren Keeli and Austin, brother-in-law John Smith, two sisters-in-law Glenna Wells and Joy (John) Savage, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and a host of friends. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Felt with Billy Rammage & Orden Hartley officiating. Cremation Services are entrusted to Henson~Novak Cremation Center of Boise City, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Gideons International.
