E. Eugene Utt Obituary (1932

Guymon, Oklahoma - E. Eugene "Gene" Utt went to be with his Lord and Savior on 8-28-2007; he passed away at his home in Guymon, OK. at the age of 75. The son of Ernest Ray and Maurita Pauline (Hauck) Utt, he was born on May 22, 1932 in Hazelton, KS. Gene started school in the first grade at King's College in Hazelton, KS., continuing on through Kiowa, KS, Pampa, TX, and graduating from Satanta High School in 1950. He attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University (P.A.M.C) at Goodwell, OK. from September 1950 through March 1951. He started working for Cities Service Gas Company in May 1951 at the Hugoton Station of Ulysses, KS. He spent two years of active service in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 and six years of inactive duty, being discharged in February 1963. His service rank was SP-3. Gene then returned to Cities Service Gas Company, where he worked for 40 years before retiring on December 31, 1991. Gene married Judith Fagan in 1954. From this union was born one daughter, Robin Carol. He married Dorene Duffey on March 13, 1960, in Garden City, KS. Gene adopted Dorene's son, Robert Douglas. From the union of Gene and Dorene was born one daughter, Cynthia Anne who died at birth. Gene enjoyed most sports. His one great hobby was fishing. He fished lakes in Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Over the years he caught some "Good Ole Big 'Uns." He was more than delighted when his wife, on a few occasions, would catch the largest fish of the day. In his retirement years, he thoroughly enjoyed the NASCAR races, with Dale Earnhardt, Sr. being his favorite driver. Gene leaves to mourn his wife of 47 years, Dorene, of the home; his son Douglas and wife, Sandy, of Fayetteville, GA.; his daughter, Robin, and husband, Gilbert Smith, of Grants Pass, OR.; three beautiful granddaughters - Brittany Noel and Danielle Celeste Smith, and Heather Dianne Utt; one sister, Lois Maxine Bates of Mission Viejo, CA.; two sisters-in-law, Josephine Duffey of Grandview, MO. and Phyllis Freerksen and husband, Earl, of Lakewood, CO.; one brother-in-law, Otto Lynn Duffey, and wife, Bonna, of Brighton, CO.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, his parents, and two brothers-in-law, John Leo Duffey and Earl R. Bates. Visitation will be at Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel, Guymon, OK., on Thursdayh evening, September 6th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memorial services will be conducted at Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel on Friday morning, September 7th at 11:00 a.m. with our very dear friend, Carol LaMar, Pastor Tim Brittain and Pastor Terry Neal officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. The Utt family suggest memorials be given to the First Christian Church of Guymon, or the American Cancer Society, or Guymon Home Health and Hospice.
