Evohn E. Backus Obituary (1921

Guymon, Oklahoma - Evohn Peterson Backus, 89, passed away Friday evening, August 23, 2013 at the Heritage Community/Dunaway Manor. The daughter of Cora Bell (Foust) and Walter Niles Adkins, Edith Evohn was born at the Adkins home on November 16, 1923 in Moline, Elk County, Kansas. Young Evohn graduated from Eliasville High School and attended John Tarleton College. She was united in marriage to Roy Peterson on June 4, 1947 in Liberal, Kansas. Evohn was a member of First Christian Church, Guymon and worked at Wilson's Jewelry for many years. Several years after Roy passed away, she was married to R.L. Backus. Outliving many of her family and friends, Evohn was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Roy Peterson and R.L. Backus; her son, David Ray Peterson and his wife, Becky Peterson; two brothers, Willard Adkins and Lee Adkins; sister, Zelma Whitney; and nephew, Jerry Hill. Evohn is survived by her two grandson, Rusty Dale Peterson of Beaumont, Texas and James David Peterson of Oklahoma City; great grandchildren, Jessica and Dylan Peterson; brother and sisters-in-law, Warren and Donna Peterson and Nora Hill; nieces and nephews, Doris Taylor, Laura Hill, Dale Adkins and wife, Linda, Darrel Adkins, Duane Adkins, and Gayle Hill; great niece, Robin and husband, Mark Brisbois. Graveside services will be Monday morning, August 26, 2013, 9:00 AM at Elmhurst Cemetery with Rev. Tom Freeman officiating. A memorial service will be Monday afternoon, 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church with Rev. Larry Watson officiating. Services are being handled by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors.
