Eugene Wesley “Gene” Hamby, 53, a longtime resident of Hooker and Hardesty, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026, near Purdy, Oklahoma.
Gene was born August 13, 1973, in Eads, Colorado, to Harry Eugene “Butch” and Marie (Williams) Hamby. He spent his early years in Hooker before his family moved to Hardesty. As a young boy, Gene attended the Hooker Church of Christ, where he was part of the church community and developed a strong foundation of faith.

While attending Hardesty High School, Gene was active in FFA and especially enjoyed showing Duroc pigs. He also played basketball and baseball and was voted Class Favorite his senior year. He graduated from Hardesty High School in 1992. Following high school, Gene briefly attended college, where he studied animal science, before beginning his career in the oil and gas industry.

On October 25, 2003, Gene married Angelique Snider in Woodward, Oklahoma. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Alania and DeDra.

Gene built a successful career in the oil and gas industry as a mud engineer. He took great pride in his work and was known for being dependable, hardworking, and someone who could make friends wherever life took him. He was also known for his infectious laugh, which brought joy to those around him.

Outside of work, Gene enjoyed many activities, especially those that brought him together with family and friends. He coached his daughters’ and grandchildren’s Little League and Kids, Inc. teams and enjoyed hunting, shooting, going to the casino, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. He also loved spending time with his beloved fur babies and valued the many friendships he made throughout his life. Family was Gene’s greatest treasure, and he cherished every moment he shared with those he loved.
Gene was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his uncle, Tad, and wife, Wanda Davis; and his aunt, Barb, and husband, Travis Walker.

He is survived by his wife, Angelique Hamby, of the home; daughters, Alania Peterson of Guymon, Oklahoma, and DeDra Hamby of Guymon, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Tykoda Hamby, Ethaniel Hamby, Jaylon Rogers, and Geonna Peterson; parents, Butch and Marie Hamby of Guymon, Oklahoma; aunts, Glovena and husband Larry Hamby and LaDonna and husband Larry Hinsdale; and a host of extended family members and friends.
