Gus Schott Obituary (1923

Guymon, Oklahoma - August Leroy (Gus) Schott, 86, longtime Guymon resident, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Hansford Hospital, Spearman, Texas. The son of August A. Schott and Ada Margaret (Krus), he was born February 25, 1923 in Manchester, Oklahoma. He graduated from Wakita High School in 1940. Gus served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Returning to Wakita after the War, Gus began his career with Adams Hardfacing. Gus married Ima Gene Hardenbrook in August 18, 1946. The Schotts moved to Guymon with Adams Hardfacing in 1953. Gus was active in his community and church as a member of the Guymon Lodge, #335 AF&AM, Panhandle Shrine Club, Lions Club and the Hardesty Senior Citizens. He was also a longtime member at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church where he was active in Methodist Men. Gus and Gene enjoyed their retirement years, traveling, fishing and spoiling grandchildren. Gus was a true example of unconditional love. This was apparent through the care he gave to his wife through her illness - and his love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gus is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gene Schott; his daughter, Diana and husband, Marvin Tharp of Hardesty, OK; two sons, Bill Schott and wife, Sandy of Colorado Springs, CO; and Alan Schott and wife, Donna of Liberal, KS; a brother, Marvin Schott of Derby, KS; five grandchildren, Jeannie and husband, Tony Aton; Christy Kelso; Mitch Tharp and wife, Brandy; Dru Schott and wife, Tabitha; Mundi and husband, Casey Ross; and nine great grandchildren, Tucker and Dalton Beasley, Shaylee and Shambri Kelso, Parker and Lakyn Tharp, Bethany, Wyatt and Spencer Schott. He is also survived by step grandchildren and their families, Jessi Freeman, Josh Smith, Skye Freeman, Hunter, Smith, Anel and Anthony Aton, Joshua Smith, Amanda Aton, Riddick, Piper and Auburn Aton; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Gus Adam Schott; brother, Richard Schott; and sister-in-law, Irma Jean Schott. Funeral services with military rites will be conducted on Tuesday afternoon, February 9th, 1:30 PM at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Michael Burkett and Rev. Barry Bennett, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
