Halsey Jordan Wetmore, Ii Obituary (1925

Halsey Wetmore Guymon, Oklahoma - Halsey Jordan Wetmore, II, 82, passed away Sunday morning, July 6th, 2008. The son of Rose Marie (McMahan) and Halsey Jordan Wetmore, he was born September 29, 1925 in Los Angeles, California. Young Halsey attended several schools in California, living with the Wetmore family and later in Canada with his mother and step-father, Bob Rizon and family. After the outbreak of World War II, Halsey moved with an aunt back to the families' hometown, Wakita, Oklahoma, where he attended high school. He left school to test and was accepted into the elite Aviation Cadet training program of the Army Air Corp. Halsey was stationed in Hobbs, NM, San Antonio, TX, Biloxi, MS, Harlingen, Midland and Amarillo, TX. Advancing his degrees in aircraft and aeronautics, Halsey remained at the Amarillo Base when the War ended, returning to Wakita in 1945. Always interested in anything mechanical, Halsey began his career with Adams' Blacksmithing. It was in his early years employed at Adams' that he met the pretty red head in the front office. After a courtship, he and Mary Belle Adams were united in marriage on May 29, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Wakita. Halsey continued to work for Adams and applied his engineering knowledge to aid in the company's growth. After a crippling fire in the Wakita factory, Adams' relocated their agricultural manufacturing site to Guymon and the Wetmores made their home in Guymon in 1950. Halsey assisted in the operation of the plant and handled various accounts, traveling in the states and internationally. Halsey sold interest and retired from Adams' in 1985 but never retired from his avid interest and tinkering of all things mechanical, including his love of automobiles. He and Mary Belle traveled, enjoyed their vacation home in Eagle Nest, New Mexico, and adored their family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Halsey was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church and was active in the Primetimers Group. He was preceded in death by a son, Tim Wetmore, daughter, Sharon Gum, and his bride of 61 years, Mary Belle Wetmore, who passed away June 1, 2008. Survivors include his sister, Pam Weil of Bellingham, WA; brother, Stu Wetmore of Pleasanton, CA; five grandchildren, Heidi and husband, Jay Nunley of Guymon; Merri Gum of Oklahoma City, OK; Maggi and husband, Randy Stavig of Weatherford, OK; Molly Wetmore and Jordan Wetmore of Norman, OK; and three great grandchildren, Rhett Nunley, Addison Stavig and Jayden Wetmore. Memorial services will be Wednesday afternoon, July 9th, 2:00 P.M. at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Burkett and Rev. Barry Bennett officiating.
