Guymon, Oklahoma
Imogene Kelly, fondly known as "Mom" by those who knew her best, was a woman of incomparable spirit, strength, and love.
Born on October 28th, 1929 in Plainview, Texas, her life was a testament to the enduring power of love and faith. Imogene's early years in Texas were marked by a joy for life that never left her, even in her later years. She married J.N. Kelly on June 25, 1949 and they eventually moved to Guymon, Oklahoma in the 1970s, where they laid roots and crafted a life filled with love, laughter, and faith.
Imogene was a woman of many talents. Her skill in the kitchen was legendary within her community - her award-winning carrot cake being a favorite at the county fair for five consecutive years. She was a passionate cook who found joy in feeding her family and friends, and her love of cooking extended to a love for fishing, a hobby she shared with her late husband, James. Imogene was also a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Guymon and was an active part of the choir. She found solace in her faith, and her favorite book was the Bible. When age made reading difficult, she bought a projector to continue reading her scriptures daily. Her faith was a beacon for those who knew her, a testament to her strength and resilience.
She will be remembered as a woman who loved deeply and gave selflessly. A devoted mother and a beloved member of her community, Imogene's greatest joy was taking care of her family. She is survived by her sons, Teddy L. Kelly; Jim Kelly and wife Candi; four grandchildren: Chelsea Durbin and husband Clint, Kim Kelly and husband Loper McCune, Rick Jackson and wife April, and Ryan Jackson and wife Kate. Six great-grandchildren: Wyett, Colson, and Coy Durbin, Tinley, Ava, and Quinn McCune. She is also survived by her brother Robert Taylor and several nieces, nephews and several friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband J.N. Kelly, and her parents, J.D. and Cloe Taylor. Imogene’s legacy will continue to live on through the lives she touched and the love she shared.
