Josephine (Jo) Beatrice Patton Obituary (1920

Josephine Beatrice "Jo" Patton long time member of Guymon's community died on Feb 1, 2009, exactly one month after Pat, her husband of 68 years, passed away. She was born Josephine Beatrice Tait on Dec. 5, 1920, in Stuttgart AR. to Emma and Jno Tait. She died at 88 years of age in the Holiday Resort Nursing Home in Salina, KS. Along with her duties as wife of 68 years, and a mother to 7 children, Jo was a tireless worker. During World War II she assisted the war effort working in New York City making bombsights for American bombers. Following the war she and Pat moved to and joined the Guymon community where she became very active. Her community involvement included membership in the Red Bud Flower Club, The Extension Homemaker Group, The E.S.A. Sorority, The Beaver River Genealogical Historical Society, and The Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. She was, for many years the superintendent in charge of the domestic arts division of the Texas county fair, and worked extensively with Guymon's Chamber of Commerce in planning Pioneer Day activities for almost 30 years. She was instrumental in starting the Parade Marshall's coffee. She created and taught the Cradle Roll Sunday School class at Trinity Lutheran Church where her and her family attended regularly for close to 60 years. She also led devotional services at Dunaway Manor for their residents. A list of her awards and accomplishment includes the following: Mother of the Year, Homemaker of the Year, Stylemaker of the Year, Women of the Year, Sweetheart of the Year, and Citizen of the Year all from various organizations. Throw in selling Avon products for over 50 years and knitting and crocheting afghans, sweaters, hats, and crosses for many friends and family and you have Jo Patton. She was a remarkable lady! She was preceded in death by her sister Jean, brother Johnny, and her husband Pat. She is survived by siblings Margaret De Bruin of Appleton, WI, and brother James Tait of Stuttgart AR. She also has seven children: Dale of Montrose, PA, Jim of Parker, CO, Dwain of Elizabethtown, KY, Billy of Tucson, AZ, Glen of Wichita, KS, Glenda of Salina, KS, and Paul, of Denver, CO. She also has numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, February 7th at 1:00 P.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Guymon, Oklahoma with Pastor Mark Wescoatt, officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Henson-Novak Funeral Home on Friday evening from 4-6:00 P.M.
