Karen Baker

–

Boise City, Oklahoma

Karen Sue Baker, aged seventy-eight years and a resident of Guymon, Oklahoma, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 24, 2022.
born Karen Sue Terrell on November 18, 1943, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, she moved as a young girl to Boise City, Oklahoma where she was a twelve-year senior and valedictorian of the graduating class of 1961. Shortly after graduating high school, she married Roy Wayne Baker on May 21, 1961, and went on to raise two beautiful children, Michael and Curtis, on their family farm southwest of Boise City.
While she was a homemaker and also worked for the United States Postal Service for a time, most will remember Karen as the owner and operator of La Mesa Restaurant in Boise City, where travelers and locals alike would stop in to enjoy her famous enchiladas.
Karen's proficiency in cooking and baking went far beyond her delicious enchiladas; from her mouthwatering baked mac-and-cheese to her uniquely scrumptious wheaties cookies, every dish was infused with her love and attention. Most will remember her comical disdain for sour cream and eggs, but her distaste of coffee generated the yummiest homemade hot cocoa recipe that her grandchildren particularly enjoyed, especially when coupled with a good movie or her favorite crime drama show on a chilly evening.
Her loved ones will attest that she loved to cook for others, so hanging around her delicious food for too long would often require...letting out the waistband of one's pants. And no one was better suited for that job than Karen! Her talent and skill as a seamstress never ceased to amaze-from the extravagant dresses sewn for her granddaughters' special events to the elaborate quilts, each piece was a masterpiece. Over the years, she also sewed numerous baby blankets, which she donated to the Hope Pregnancy Center; countless pairs of gloves and mittens, which she donated locally; and innumerable pioneer dresses for the Guymon Land Run celebration.
Whether it be through her cooking and baking or her sewing, using her talents to love on and serve others-whether family, friend, or stranger-was dear to her heart.
Karen is survived by: her eldest son Michael and daughter-in-law Pamela of Guymon, OK; youngest son Curtis and daughter-in-law Cheryl of Katy, TX; grandchild Brittney and husband Mark; grandchildren LaKrisha, Brandon, and MiKaela; step-grandchildren Nicole and Matt; great-grandchildren Ava, Brynn, Caxton, and Lincoln; sister Becky and brother-in-law Ronnie of Ponca City, OK; brother Howard and sister-in-law Wydene of Tonkawa, OK; brother Paul and sister-in-law Darla of Owasso, OK; and brother Bobby and sister-in-law Tiffany of Chandler, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert "Bob" and Josephine "Jo" Terrell, and her beloved husband Roy..
