Kenny Huckins Obituary (1962

Kenny (Ken) Huckins, 47, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 4, 2010 at BSA Hospital, Amarillo, Texas. Kenny was a family man and loved his community. He was serving as the Guymon Mayor and had been on the City Council for many years. He had been a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the City of Guymon for 22 years, an active member of the Guymon Kiwanis, volunteered with Boys Scouts and an ardent supporter of the Guymon Gators Swim Team and Guymon Kids Inc. Kenny will be remembered for sharing his love of baseball, and whatever sport or activity his boys were involved in, through the countless hours he volunteered as coach and his constant presence as a dad. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Church and was a director at Bank of the Panhandle. Kenny always had a ready smile and endless energy that he used to make his community a better place for his friends, his family, and everyone else. Kenny's spirit of giving continued even after his death, as he was able to donate his organs and tissue to help others' lives become better. Kenny Dean Huckins was born October 1, 1962 in Guymon to Shirley Jenell (Quesenbury) and Ronald Dean Huckins. Kenny attended and graduated from Guymon schools where he served as class president for the GHS Class of 1980. He married his high school sweetheart, Carla Birdsill, on July 23, 1983. After graduating from Panhandle State University with a Business Administration Degree in 1984, Kenny managed the Guymon Coca Cola Plant for a short time before working for the U.S. Postal Service. Kenny began his career with Panhandle Telephone Cooperative, Inc in 1988 in the accounting department. He was currently the Assistant Office Manager at PTCI. The Huckins were involved with rental property and other Guymon businesses. Kenny is survived by his wife, Carla; 3 sons, Chad Huckins, Landon Huckins and Aaron Huckins; his adored grandson, Caden Dean Huckins; mother, Shirley Huckins; sister, Tina and husband, Scott Holmes; brother, Darin Huckins; grandparents, Juanita Quinn, and Nida and Dean Huckins; and mother-in-law, Edith Birdsill, all of Guymon. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Judy and Don Masse, Vicki and Kenny Stelzer, Mike Birdsill, Tim Birdsill, Ken Birdsill, Chris Poterbin, Karen Smith, Ginger Birdsill Lewis, Larry Birdsill, Laurie and Peter Morris, and many uncles, aunts, cousins and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie Huckins, who passed away in 1993; maternal grandfather, Sammie Quesenbury and his father-in-law, Robert Birdsill, three brothers-in-law, Steve Birdsill, Robbie Birdsill and Phil Smith. Visitation will be Saturday evening, 6-9:00 PM; Sunday, 1:00-9:00 PM and Monday, 9:00 AM - noon. Prayer vigil services will be Sunday evening, May 9th at 7:30 PM at the Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel, 501 NW Fifth, Guymon. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday afternoon, May 10th, 2:00 PM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1220 North Quinn, with Father Bill Pruitt officiating. Interment with honors by the Guymon Fire Department Honor Guard will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of floral gifts, memorials may be given to Guymon Gators, Kid's Inc., Loaves and Fishes Food Cupboard or the Oklahoma State Firefighters' Memorial.
