L.D. (Bud) Denney Obituary (1919

Losson David (Bud) Denney passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon, Oklahoma. He was born to John D. and Rosaltha (Pike) Denney on April 14, 1919 in Texas County, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Hildred Nebergall on August 1, 1937 in Hesston, Kansas. Bud served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorable discharged as a Master Sergeant in 1946. The Denneys moved from Newton, Kansas back to Guymon in 1950. He and Hildred were owner/operators of Denney's Dine-A-Teria for many years starting with a 10-stool diner in 1950. They retired from the restaurant business in 1973 and in 1974 retired in Arizona where they could golf and travel year-around. In October 2000 the Denneys moved back to Guymon. Bud was a 62-year member of the Guymon Lodge #335 AF&AM and the Panhandle Shrine Club. He was also a member of the First Christian Church. Bud was an avid golfer, bridge player, pilot of his own plane, and loved to travel. In Scotland, he and Hildred played at the famed St. Andrews Golf Course. Bud earned four hole-in-ones, including one in North Carolina resulting in his placement in the World Golf Hall of Fame. He was a devoted family man for his wife, children and grandchildren and a friend to all. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Hildred who passed away in 2001; sister and husband, Maryellen and Henry Landess; brother, Paul Denney and wife, Ruth, and two nephews, Ronnie and Stan Landess. He is survived by two daughters, Sandy Campbell and husband, Randy of Junction City, Kansas; Brenda Boomer and husband, Lewis of Littlefield, TX; two sons, Jon Denney of Oklahoma City; Mike Denney of Guymon; eight grandchildren, Debbie Crenshaw, David Denney and wife Patricia, Jessica Denney, Kevin Denney, Mike Campbell and wife Norma, Dan Campbell and wife Amanda; Tammy Demel and husband Pat, Tim Boomer and wife Judith; ten great grandchildren, Jonathan, Damien, Evan, Isaac, Losson, Megan, Erik, Maggie, Matthew and Logan; and a brother-in-law, Jim Nevergall of St. George, UT. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. The Denney family will receive friends at the Henson-Novak Funeral Home, 501 NW Fifth, Guymon on Thursday evening, October 13th, 5-7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 1:30 P.M. at the First Christian Church, 802 N Quinn with Rev. David Stevens, pastor, officiating. Military graveside rites will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.
