L.R. Wilgus Obituary (1921

Guymon, Oklahoma - L.R. (Pee Wee) Wilgus, 90, passed away early Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Dunaway Manor. The son of Gladys (Bowen) and Silas Wilgus, Lois Ray Wilgus was born July 10, 1921 in Forgan, Oklahoma. He graduated from Greenough High School. While home on military leaver, L.R. married his sweetheart, Fern Ola Folmer on October 23, 1943 in Liberal, Kansas. As a World War II Army Veteran, he fought with the 535th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. Serving in European Theater (England, Germany, France, Holland and Belgium), L.R. drove all types of Army light vehicles and chiefly A 3/4 ton trucks. After the War, he began his career at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company as an Operator A at the Hansford Plant located south of Hardesty, Oklahoma. He retired from Panhandle Eastern in 1984. L.R. and Fern enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Fern Ola Wilgus who passed away in 2009; and two brothers, Vernon Wilgus and Frank Wilgus. He is survived by his son, Roger Wilgus and wife, Annette of Guymon; daughter, Teresa Randle and husband, David of Hays, KS: grandson, Logan Wilgus of Guymon; four granddaughters, Tammie Nelson of Beloit, KS; Angela Heier and husband, Kevin of Sedgwick, KS; Davesa Cousins and husband, Donald, and Shayla Randle, all of Hays; and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday morning, November 29th, 11:00 A.M. at the Church of the Nazarene, 2214 N Sunset, Guymon with Pastor Wayne Dawson, officiaiting. Military Rites will be at 2:00 P.M. at Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal, Kansas. Services are under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
