Loyd V. Peterson Obituary (1924

Loyd Vernon Peterson, 88, lifelong area business man, passed away Saturday evening, December 1, 2012, at his home. The son of Oklahoma panhandle pioneers, Ona Nixon and Jerome Peterson, he was born July 20, 1924, on the family homestead located south of Guymon. He attended Prairie View School and graduated from Guymon High School in 1946, and later graduated from Panhandle A&M College, Goodwell. Loyd taught school for 3 years at the Unity School. He was united in marriage to Norlene Norris Ingels on May 20, 1949. Loyd and Norlene enjoyed 63 years of marriage, based on family, faith, church and community with a lot of added patience and humor. Loyd began a career in the funeral business in 1952 with friend and partner, Marlin Henson, in the Henson Funeral Home. Loyd, known as Pete to many, served the community until retiring in 1990. Always active in the First Christian Church where he served as elder and deacon for many years, taught men's cooking classes and prepared communion bread. As a member and past officer of the Guymon Kiwanis Club, Loyd enjoyed his tenure as Lt. Governor and President of the Oklahoma/Texas District. He was a member of the Ancient and Beneficent Order of Red Red Rose, a charter member of the March of Dimes and served on the United Way Board. Professionally, Loyd was a member of the National and Oklahoma Funeral Directors' Associations. Loyd was always a teacher; he enjoyed tutoring and helping adults in reading classes. The Petersons reared and helped many kids in addition to their own family. Loyd and Norlene employed, encouraged, mentored, fed and housed many young men and college students. Loyd's quick mind, sense of humor, practical joking, and good home cooking, helped generations of young students. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norlene; daughter, Wynelda and husband, Curtis Miller of Goodwell; two sons, Kim Peterson and wife, Melissa of Guymon and Kye Peterson and wife, Anita of Liberal, Kansas; a sister, Leona and husband, Rod Rogers of Amarillo, Texas, and brother-in-law, Clifford Hill of Guymon. The joy and pride of his life were his grandchildren, Jana and Monte Wallace, Curt and Sharla Woolfolk, Amy and Mike Aichele, Jaime and Arlen Kauffman, Scott and Nicole Peterson, Nick and Chanci Peterson and Kristen Miller; and his eleven perfect great grandchildren, Grayson and Gannon Wallace, Sarah and Emma Aichele, Conner and Nash Kauffman, Derek, Caeden and Faith Peterson, Hunter and Kelton Peterson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and more friends than you can shake a stick at. Loyd was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Peterson and Roy Peterson and a sister, Ruby Hill. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, December 5th, 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church with Pastor Mark Wescoatt, Rev. Randy Caddell and Rev. Read Barby officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday evening, 5:30-7:30 PM at the Henson-Novak Funeral Home, 501 NW Fifth, Guymon.
