Mabel Margueritte Moore

–

Guymon, Oklahoma

Mabel Moore, 89, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Vitas Hospice Unit, San Antonio, Texas.

The daughter of Clem and Clara Naomi Daniel, she was born November 26, 1921 in Croft, Kansas. Mabel's family were "custom cutters" hired to harvest grain crops through the Midwest and the family worked and traveled from Texas to North Dakota, lived a short time in California, but always came home to Kansas. Mabel grew up learning to cook for the harvest crews.

She attended several schools due to the family's business and graduated from the Richfield, Kansas, High School. After graduation she got a job at the American Agriculture Agency in Elkhart, Kansas. On a blind date with another fellow, Mabel met the young and handsome Mid Moore. Their respective dates did not dance so Mabel and Mid danced the night away. And that was the beginning of their beautiful relationship. Mabel Daniel and M.P. Moore were united in marriage on December 27, 1942 in Elkhart, Kansas and spent the next 62 years together.

The Moore family farmed on the Daniel Farm for a few years near Richfield, KS and during this time Connie and Larry were born. The family moved to Hugoton, KS where Mid began working for Dowell Incorporated. They made their home in Guymon in 1947, built a house and Christy was born a year later.

Mabel worked to supplement the family income at Oliver's Shoe Store and later at the Gunn Brothers Stamp Store.

While Mid was working in the oil field, Mabel was a homemaker, Cub Scout Den Mother, chauffeured the children to all of their various activities (MYF, basketball, baseball, band, orchestra, choir, Rainbows and Demolay, Girl Scout camp, home & away football games, chaperoned local activities).

Mid and Mabel enjoyed camping, traveling and visiting their children, delighting in their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

They lived in Guymon until Mid's death in 2004 when Mabel moved to San Antonio to live with daughter Christy for the next 6 years.

Mabel loved being active in the United Methodist Church and participating in the Joy Circle. She received a recognition pin in 1982 from the United Methodist Women. She especially loved the Guymon Victory Memorial United Methodist Church and continued her support and contacts with friends there. After moving to San Antonio, the highlight of Mabel's week was listening to the sermon and going through the church newsletter.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie and husband, Richard Brady of Beaumont, TX and Christy Shriver of San Antonio, TX; a son, Larry Moore and wife, Barbara of Savage, Minnesota; grandchildren, Andrew P. Moore and wife, Jennifer and Krista L. and husband, Joe Raschke; and three great grandchildren, Asher Moore, Aaron Raschke and Kelcie Raschke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, her husband, M.P. "Mid" Moore, and a son-in-law, James Shriver, Jr. The Moore family will receive friends at the Henson-Novak Funeral Home, 501 NW Fifth, Guymon on Friday evening from 7:00-9:00 PM.

Celebration of life services will be conducted Saturday morning, March 19th, 11:00 A.M. at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, 521 N Roosevelt, Guymon with Rev. Dr. Michael Burkett, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be prior to the church services at 10:30 AM at Elmhurst Cemetery.
