Melvin Charles Heugatter was born on August 13, 1951 to Melvin Coy and Patsy Ruth (Stubbs) Heugatter in Bowie, TX. He attended school, grades 1-10 in and around Bowie, Tx and Lexington, OK. Charlie came to Boise City for the summer of his Junior year to work for his Uncle Cap Williams and decided to stay. He graduated
from Boise City High School in 1969. He married his high school sweetheart, Rogene Tooley on June 5, 1970. They celebrated their 55th anniversary this year.
Charlie was drafted into the Army in April of 1971. He completed basic training at Fort Ord in California and advanced infantry training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, before his tour at Camp Page in South Korea. He was discharged from the Army in late 1972. In 1974, their lives were blessed with the arrival of their daughter, Shadlynn.
During his life, he farmed, ranched, drove semi trucks, sold vehicles and livestock equipment. He was the ranch manager of Ambassador Angus at Guymon, and a herdsman at Gardiner Angus Ranch for many years. Charlie loved ranching and helping others most of all. He was always the first to volunteer to help 4H and FFA
kids with their projects and horsemanship skills. He served on fair boards, rodeo boards, and was a 4H leader. He enjoyed his fellow veterans at the VFW and trap shooting buddies young and old.
His hobbies were team roping, trap shooting with his granddaughter, Stormie, and son-in-law, Seth, and showing horses with his daughter, Shad and granddaughter, Erika. He loved watching his granddaughters, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews play at different sporting events in arenas, courts and
diamonds.
Charlie was known for his boisterous laughter, kindness, and willingness to help others. If you were a friend, you were family. He always made an impression on everyone he met. If Shad and Rogene lost him in a crowd, they just listened for laughter to find him.
Melvin “Charlie” Heugatter was preceded in death by his parents, Coy Heugatter,Patsy Minton, step-father Richard Minton, and sister- in-law Carla Tooley.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Rogene, daughter Shadlynn, husband Seth, granddaughters Erika Shae and Stormie Rae Maness of Boise City. His sisters Sue Martin and husband Jerry of Lexington, OK.
