Merrell Taylor Obituary (1935

Merrell Taylor, 74, passed away Saturday morning, June 26, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of Texas County. The son of Myrtle May (Avery) and Thomas Jefferson Taylor, he was born July 8, 1935 in Reydon, Oklahoma. Mr. Taylor served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and received the Good Conduct Medal, European Defense Medal and an Expert Marksmanship Medal. He married Nelda Ann Vines on June 4, 1960. Mr. Taylor was a Master Mechanic, trained by the GM Training School, was a Certified Master Technician, a Dr. of Motors(Perfect Circle Corp.) and was certified as a Oklahoma Department of Public Safety Official Mechanic/Inspector. He was a member of the Oldsmobile Service Guild and was also a member of the Guymon and Oklahoma American Legion. He worked in the auto industry until purchasing the Guymon Laundry in 1975 and Merrell's Auto Service. He was honored as Business Man of the Year in 1982-83. Merrell loved and cared for his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nelda Taylor; his children, Randy Taylor of Guymon; Rhonda and husband, Todd Macias of Santa Fe, NM; four grandchildren; Philip Macias and Gary Macias, both of Albuquerque, NM; Jamie and husband, Matt Andrews of Stillwater, OK; and Stacie Lucero of Guymon; two great granddaughters, Adriana and Caitlin Lucero; and two sisters, Geraldine Fanshier and Virginia Taylor, both of Elk City, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, three half-brothers, Johnny Stevens, Curtis Taylor and Claude Taylor; a half-sister, Hazel Taylor; brother, Robert Taylor; sisters, Luella and husband, Bill Wells; and Ruby Tyler; and his mother and father-in-law, Susie and Elsie Vines. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning, June 29th at 10:00 A.M. at the Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel, 501 NW Fifth, Guymon with Rev. Derek Cox, Pastor of First Baptist Church officiating.
