Nadine Goff

–

Spearman, Texas

Ruth Nadine (Calvert) Goff passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, at the age of 89 at Hansford Manor in Spearman, Texas.

Nadine was born on December 12, 1936, on the family homestead near Optima, Oklahoma, to Preston Pearl and Naoma Ruth (Wheeler) Calvert. She was the only daughter, born between her two brothers, Don and Jerry.

Nadine attended high school in Guymon, Oklahoma, graduating in 1955. She was an active member of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, serving as the Worthy Advisor one year. She met the love of her life, Clayton Goff, when her brother was the pastor at Marella Methodist Church in 1952, and their friendship blossomed into a lifelong love. They began dating in 1956 and were married on August 15, 1957, at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon.

Clayton and Nadine were blessed to have three children Janet Gay, Sandra Kay, and Glen Calvert.

The young family enjoyed the company of many friends and family members throughout their early years and made many moves across the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles, with Nadine always by Clayton’s side as his biggest, steadfast supporter. Their first home was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where they welcomed their first daughter, Janet Gay Goff. They then moved to Claude, Texas.

In 1960, the family relocated to Baker, Oklahoma, where Clayton taught in the Eureka School District, and they welcomed their second daughter, Sandra Kay. The family later moved to Turpin, Oklahoma. During their years in Turpin, the family was blessed with the birth of their son, Glen Calvert Goff.

During this time, Nadine took care of their growing family and moved them all to student housing for many summers as Clayton worked to earn his master’s degree from Highland University in Las Vegas, NM. For Nadine, it was like packing up the entire family to go camping for three months!

After several years, the family moved to Felt, Oklahoma, following a promotion for Clayton, where he served as the school superintendent. At Felt, Nadine began taking art lessons. She took to painting like a duck to water! The family began to spend vacations in Taos, where Nadine loved going to the art galleries.

In 1970, the family came back to Guymon, Oklahoma due to a career advancement for Clayton. This move allowed her to participate in Eastern Star with her mother. While raising her family and maintaining the household there, Nadine continued her own education. She attended Panhandle State University and graduated in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

Following graduation, Nadine began teaching second grade at Academy School, where she remained until her retirement in 1995. She was especially proud that she never “graduated from second grade” during her teaching career, spending all her years at Academy teaching the same grade. She particularly loved teaching reading. Even after retirement, Nadine enjoyed serving as a substitute teacher and never truly stopped being an educator. Teaching was a part of who she was, and the lives of her students remained an important part of her legacy.

Nadine loved her family, her community, and her church. She and Clayton were longtime members of the Victory Memorial Methodist Church Chancel Choir, and she was a valued member of the Methodist Ruth’s Women’s Circle. Nadine took great pleasure in the beauty of nature from small things like sand plums to the majestic vistas of the Valle Caldera. She enjoyed painting and took great pleasure in the creative process. Nadine introduced her children to music, especially when they were cleaning the house – which made house cleaning fun. Among her many nieces and nephews, Nadine was affectionately known as the “Keeper of the Rules,” a title that reflected both her personality and the special place she held in her family. Nadine also kept the extended family photos well-organized and treasured and maintained family history. Throughout her life she loved “The River”! She enjoyed looking for artifacts and going out to see the cattle in the evening.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Naoma Calvert; her brothers, Rev. Don Calvert and Rev. Jerry Calvert; and her beloved husband of 64 years, Clayton Brown Goff.

Her memory will be treasured by her children, Janet Cooper; Sandra and her husband, Bill Hensley; and Glen and his wife, Shelly Goff. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Heydon Hensley, Kestrel Hensley, Alyson Cooper, Mattie Hensley, Devin Goff, Avery Goff, and Connor Goff; one great-grandchild, Corin Hensley; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family in attendance from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Victory Memorial Methodist Church, with Pastor David Player officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, Oklahoma. Services are entrusted to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Victory Memorial Methodist Church in Guymon, Oklahoma or Hansford Manor in Spearman, Texas. Donations may be sent or delivered to Henson-Novak Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.

Nadine will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love of family, love of art, dedication to education, devotion to her church, and the many lives she touched will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
