Pattie Lynn Obituary (1934

Pattie Lynn January 30, 1933 - October 26, 2014 Pattie Florence (Sullivan) Lynn passed away October 26, 2014 at the age of 81. She was born January 30, 1933 in Hardesty, Oklahoma to Smiley Summerfield Sullivan and Florence Madge Ingels. She attended school in Hardesty and after high school graduation in 1954, moved to Berkeley, California to help her sister Margaret run a boarding house for college students. She married James Allan Williamson (deceased) in 1953 and had two sons, Thomas Allan and James Smiley. When her husband passed away in 1961, she returned home to Guymon, Oklahoma with her sons to attend Panhandle State University and obtain her teaching certificate. In November 1962, Pattie married Wallace Lynn (deceased) and together with her two sons and his four children, they created a blended family. Pattie taught in the Guymon public school system from 1966 until she retired in 1986. She also taught English as a Second Language to adults at night and received many letters from students sharing their appreciation for her impact on their lives. She was best known as the Academy Elementary librarian and loved to tell stories. She became known as "the dragon lady" because she would always set a Pete the Dragon figurine beside her while she read to the students. Pattie was very active in the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon, and was known for her strong faith in the Lord, which she passed on to her children and her grandchildren. Pattie was a devoted Sunday school teacher at the Methodist Church and later started the children's church program, using puppets and songs to teach the children about the Bible. Pattie loved classical music and was very talented in sewing, knitting, and cross-stitching. She often made wonderful gifts for family and friends. She also enjoyed shopping, and was known for her amazing ability to always find the best sales. Pattie enjoyed vacationing each summer at the family cabin in Lake Tahoe, California. After living in Guymon for 36 years and serving the community in the church and in the school system, Pattie and Wally retired to California in 1997. Pattie is survived by her sister, Gloria Bennett of Grand Junction, Colorado; two sons, Thomas Williamson and wife, Kathy of Utah, and James Smiley Williamson and wife, Gabrielle of Ireland; three daughters, Nancy and husband Larry Phillips of Stockton, California, Debbie Holt of Garden City, Kansas, and Karen and husband Mark McGrew of Guymon; seven grandchildren, Bradley and wife Tierney Williamson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jessica and husband Dathan Howard of Washington, Summer and husband Jeff Behne of Guymon, Nicole and husband Marshall Haught of Guymon, Caleb and wife Kim Holt of Stockton, California, Josh and wife Katy of Garden City, Kansas, and Erin and husband Nick Mraz of Lincoln, California. She left fourteen great grandchildren: Brooklyn and Savannah Howard of Washington, Kyleigh and Elaina Williamson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Skylar and Haylee Behne of Guymon, Kaitlyn and Cordell Haught of Guymon, Athena and Aricia Holt of Stockton, California, Aurora and Jacob Holt of Garden City, Kansas, and Luke and Gabe Mraz of Lincoln, California. A memorial service will be held in her honor at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Holdeman, pastor, officiating. Interment of cremains will be private in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
