R.L. Backus Obituary (1918

R.L. Backus, 91, passed away Thursday evening, March 18th, 2010 at BSA Hospice, Amarillo, Texas. The son of Lucy (Hogle) and Alfred Backus, he was born December 22, 1918 in Baca County, Colorado. Young R.L. Backus came as a young boy with his family to Texas County. He attended Prairie View country school, south of Guymon, and later graduated from Guymon High School. He married Evohn Adkins on January 27, 1983 and they enjoyed several years of traveling. R.L. was a farmer full of wisdom. Survivors include his wife, Evohn; two step grandsons, Rusty Peterson and wife, Joan; and James Peterson, all of Guymon; two nephews, Lee Backus of Arizona and Jerry Backus of Africa; and two step great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jessica Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson, David Ray Peterson and a brother, Albert Lee Backus. Graveside services and interement of cremains will be Tuesday afternoon, March 23rd, 2:00 PM at Elmhurst Cemetery under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, Guymon, OK. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, c/o Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.
