Shannon Lucille (Green) Word, 54, former longtime resident of Texhoma, Oklahoma, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Hemphill County Hospital in Canadian, Texas, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her journey, Shannon's unwavering faith in Christ gave her strength, peace, and hope, and her life was a beautiful testimony of God's love and grace.
Shannon was born on June 3, 1972, in San Antonio, Texas, to David R. and Gayle Yvonne (Ammerman) Green. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1990 and later earned degrees in Agronomy and Accounting from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. On October 18, 2003, she married the love of her life, Arba Word, at the First Christian Church in Texhoma. Together, they were blessed to share a blended family of five children.
Shannon worked for many years at Prestage Farms before serving as Regional Controller at CSS Farms. She was also a member of Texhoma Rotary, the Dalhart Chamber of Commerce, and Gamma Theta Sorority.
Her greatest joy was her family, especially her ten grandchildren, who lovingly called her "MiMi." She enjoyed reading, traveling, shopping, and was known for her love of fashion, shoes, purses, and collecting rocks from her travels.
More than anything, Shannon loved Jesus and sought to reflect His love in the way she lived. She never met a stranger, always made time for others, and faced every challenge with remarkable faith, courage, and kindness. While her family mourns her loss, they find comfort in knowing she is healed and rejoicing in the presence of her Savior.
She was preceded in death by her father, David R. Green; her paternal grandparents; her maternal grandfather; and her nephew, Wyatt Green.
Shannon is survived by her husband, Arba Word, of the home; daughters, Keirstin Bebermeyer and husband Kyle of Loyal, Oklahoma, Catalina DelReal Word of Goodwell, Oklahoma, and Kaitlyn Campbell and husband Justice of Garden City, Kansas; her sons, Skyler Smith and wife Janie of Ulysses, Kansas, and Isaac Murphy and wife Sarah of Texhoma, Texas; her sisters, Dena Chenault of Boise City, Oklahoma, and Cheree Turley of Texhoma, Oklahoma; her brothers, Karl Green and wife Nancy of Texhoma, Oklahoma, and John Green of Huntsville, Arkansas; her ten grandchildren, Andy, Destiny, Zoei, Hunter, Elizabeth, Nash, Krew, Kreed, Emerald, and A.J.; and many beloved extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Henson-Novak Funeral Home in Guymon. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Texhoma, Oklahoma, with Pastor Chris Hedges officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made in Shannon’s memory to Hemphill County Hospice. Memorials will be accepted through Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.
