Guymon, Oklahoma
Sky A. Rutledge, 50 died on April 27, 2009 at home after a five month battle with advanced liver cancer and cirrhosis.
Sky was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma on May 28, 1958 and raised primarily in Ponca City until 1969 when he entered the Eldon & Mary Moelling family as their foster son while they were residing in Tonkawa. Sky attended school in Tonkawa, Oklahoma City and graduated from Pryor High School in 1976. Upon arriving at the Moelling's doorstep in Oklahoma City following his high school graduation, Sky was informed by his Mom that they were moving to Guymon in a couple of weeks, so there was no need to unpack. When Sky asked where in the world was Guymon, she responded as any teacher would with, "look it up on the map". Sky moved to Guymon shortly thereafter with his family where Eldon became pastor of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church. Sky remained in Guymon when the Moelling family made the move to Stillwater where Eldon became pastor of First United Methodist Church.
Sky met his wife, Kim Harris while standing in the food line at the annual Dunes Party in early October of 1984. Although he stood her up on their first date, she found his apology and heart-melting smile hard to resist and agreed to another first date on Halloween, which began their twenty-four years together with the last five as husband and wife.
In his youth, Sky was an active member of the Boy Scouts during which time he served as usher at OU Football games, where his love for the Sooners began. He was a member of the Victory Memory United Methodist Church. Sky, while still young at heart in his twenties and thirties enjoyed playing flag football, tennis, intramural basketball, softball (both city and church leagues) and volleyball and loved to ski, but after a certain point in his life, he mainly enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
Since Sky's move to Guymon in 1976, he has worked for Farr Better Feeds, Sams Well Service, Amarillo Grain Exchange, Pool Well Service, Guymon Tire & Service Center, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation where he has been employed for the last nineteen years as an inspector for new construction until his illness.
Sky is survived by his wife, Kim of the home, his mother, Mary Moelling of Edmond, Oklahoma, his brother, Kirt Moelling and wife, Sha'rie of Oklahoma City, his sister, Kelsey Lacey and husband, Dane of North Richland Hills, Texas, his brother-in-law, Bobby Harris and wife, Connie of Amarillo, Texas, three nephews, Nathan and Matthew Moelling of Oklahoma City, Aidan Lacey of North Richland Hills, Texas, two nieces, Angelina Lacey of North Richland Hills, Texas and Brianne Hanson of Amarillo, Texas, one great niece, Kaylee Hanson of Amarillo, Texas, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
Sky was preceded in death by his father, Eldon Moelling and sister, Terri Lynn and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and JoAnne Harris.
Memorial services will be conducted Friday afternoon, May 1st, 2009, 2:00 P.M. at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, 523 North Roosevelt, Guymon, with Rev. Kirt Moelling officiating. Cremation and services are under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors.
