Stanley E. Barnes Obituary (1936

Keyes, Oklahoma - Stanley (Stan) Eugene Barnes, 74, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Northwest Hospital, Amarillo, Texas. The son of Effie Jane (Melton) and George Washington Barnes, he was born January 28, 1936 in Oklahoma City. The Barnes family had lived in Checotah, Oklahoma and left the farm to open a restaurant in Oklahoma City in 1952. Stan graduated from Southeast High School in 1954. He married his sweetheart, Ellen Joy Surface on May 20, 1956 in Oklahoma City. Stan and Joy moved their family to Perryton, Texas where Stan worked as a mechanic in the oilfield. The Barnes moved to the Yarborough community, near Keyes, Oklahoma in 1971 where Stan worked as a pumper and later was a truck owner/operator for Hofferber Truck Lines. Mr. Barnes was a 32nd Degree Mason, Perryton Lodge, AF&AM and was part of the Scottish Rite, Wichita, Kansas. He was also a member of the Church of Christ, Elkhart, Kansas. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joy Barnes; six children and their spouses, daughter Lisa and Larry Taylor of Arnett, OK; sons, Tim and Sandy Barnes; Richard and Linda Barnes all of Hugoton, KS; Jeff Barnes of Keyes; Jeremy and Juda Barnes of Hardesty, OK; William and Tiffany Barnes of Perryton, TX; two sisters, Catherine Anderson and Maureen Barnes, both of Mesa, AZ; brother, Sam Barnes of Eufala, OK; mother-in-law, Verna Dedmon and sister-in-law, Shirley Jones both of Moore, OK and a host of nieces and nephews. He adored his fourteen grandchildren including Dustin Barnes, Rance Barnes and wife Amanda; Cordell Barnes; Zackary, James and Josh Taylor; Shawn and Ashley Wells; Morgan Barnes; Austin, Alexis and Matthew Barnes; Colby and Kori Barnes; and his weenie dog, Sadie May. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Stella Mae Collier and Gladys McKinley; and two brothers, Howard Barnes and Ben Barnes. There will be viewing and visitation at the Church of Christ, 428 Stanton, Elkhart on Friday evening, 6-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon, December 11th, 2:00 PM at the Church of Christ, Elkhart, Kansas with Layton Leatherman, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Elkhart Cemetery under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Oklahoma.
