Terri Wood Obituary (1936

Teresa Ann (Chapman) Wood was born June 7, 1936 in Snyder, Texas. She died peacefully in her sleep on October 30, 2011 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Teresa ("Terri" to many) was the daughter of L.A. and Willie Faye Chapman. She grew up in Colorado City, Texas, where her father served as Chamber of Commerce manager and her mother taught piano. The family moved to Guymon, Oklahoma in 1953. Teresa attended Panhandle State (A&M) University in Goodwell, Oklahoma. There, she met handsome James Byron ("Jim") Wood, fresh out of his Navy service in Korea. They married on February 18, 1955, and lovingly cultivated their three children. A devoted Methodist, Teresa and Jim raised their family in the Beaver United Methodist Church in Beaver, Oklahoma, where Teresa taught 5 year-olds in Sunday School for 40 years. An active leader in Cubs, Boy Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts, Teresa used her considerable talent at piano, writing and rhyme to teach values and standards to children. Always quick-thinking and able, Teresa worked in Beaver as a secretary for W.A. Colvin (insurance), Jim Lyle (banking), Tim Leonard, Robert J. Kee, and R.P. Trippet (attorneys). Teresa retired with Jim in 1991. She lived in Beaver well after her beloved Jim's death in 2003, and moved to Tealridge Retirement Center in Edmond when her own health began to fail in 2008. A pep squad leader by nature, who never met a stranger, Teresa was witty, lively, full of fun, and always a fan doing whatever she could in support of her many students, family and friends. Teresa was a charter member of Chapter GA, P.E.O. in Beaver, and transferred to Chapter FM while in Edmond. Teresa was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include her brothers, Carroll Chapman and wife Ramona, Abilene, Texas and John Bruce Chapman, of Lord's Valley, Pennsylvania; son Rick Wood and wife Jennifer, and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Adrienne and Charlton Wood of Grapevine, Texas, daughter Carol Wood Mitchell and husband Jack, Edmond, Oklahoma, and son Allen Wood, Elkhart, Kansas, and grandchildren Damian Pugh, Beaver, and Cassie Beth Pugh, Enid, Oklahoma, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Beaver United Methodist Church, Beaver, Oklahoma. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Elmhurst Cemetery, Guymon, Oklahoma, under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to Chapter FM, P.E.O.
